Asher and Tobin have Art duty. Guarding the state-sanctioned Art is a job, and somebody’s got to do it. Remember, the Security detail is for the Art’s protection, not yours. Please don’t ask questions or be too annoying. If you make it weird, they’re here to kill you, not themselves.

Morbidly comic, relentless, and absurd, Art Duty’s revolving cast of characters interrogate the purpose of art in a society, its value, and what to do when you meet someone who doesn’t think about killing themself.

About the Author

Daniel (they/he) is a neurodivergent writer/actor/ginger currently based out of Southwest Ohio. They have a special fondness for absurdism, folklore, and horror, but ultimately love plays about honest people (or talking animals) in situations they haven’t seen before. When not gleefully giving his soul to artistic endeavors and projects, he legitimately enjoys long walks on the beach, video games with local co-op, and bread. Their full-length plays include Art Duty, Bereavement Leave, and Pit, a part of the ’24-25 season of the Inkwell Theater’s Development LAB. His cosmic horror, In the Slush, was a Finalist for the 2023 Princess Grace Award and received its World Premiere with Gather by the Ghost Light in July 2025. Their one-acts, For a Limited Time Only (The Bread Play) and You See Them in the Corners of Your Eyes, have been produced at theatres, colleges, and schools throughout the US. Daniel is an alumnus of the University of Virginia and a proud member of the Dramatists Guild.
